Wednesbury Day

A free community festival that celebrated the town!

Wednesbury Day took place in June 2023 in partnership with Multistory. It was part of the We Are Wednesbury cultural programme delivered by Multistory and community partners through the High Streets Heritage Action Zones scheme, funded by Sandwell Council and Historic England.

Black Country Touring and Multistory brought family-friendly theatre performances, interactive street games, live music, face painting and other fun activities for people of all ages to Wednesbury town centre. The festivities began on Saturday 10th June, and the main celebration took place on Saturday 17th June.

Saturday 17th June

The main Wednesbury Day celebration on 17th June was jam-packed with a wide range of events and activities for everyone to enjoy. Indoor activities included a community craft exhibition, a live creation of rangoli art, and Multistory’s High Street Portraits exhibition. Outdoor activities took place throughout Wednesbury’s Market Square, Union Street, and High Street. Audiences joined the community parade led by Eko the 13-foot sea giant puppet which culminated in a magical dance theatre performance by Autin Dance Theatre, were entertained by the eternally curious giant pigeons and the hilarious Lollipop Ladies as they roamed the town centre, enjoyed captivating performances by the exciting and vibrant Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band and Circus Raj, and watched a lovely show by Mark Whitaker about a postman who decides to bring a little sunshine into everyone’s lives.

Audiences joined us for inclusive and accessible Street Games with Autin Dance Theatre, bumped into the hilarious Lollipop Ladies who were causing havoc around the town centre, had their faces painted by professional face painters from Rainbow Faces, and enjoyed a heartwarming storytelling show by Crow’s Nest Theatre Company about a snowy quest to convince nay-sayers that yetis really do exist!
