Evaluation Consultant 

We are seeking an evaluation consultant to support the development and implementation of creative and inclusive evaluation techniques. The aim is to capture the views and experiences of under-represented audience members, including individuals with English as a second language, adults with learning difficulties or differences, and children who cannot engage with traditional survey methods.

The consultant will advise the Black Country Touring team and work with us to test and integrate innovative approaches to evaluation, ensuring that these methods effectively gather meaningful insights from these groups. Their work will align with the reporting requirements of key funders, such as Arts Council England (ACE)

Our Evaluation Aims

Inclusive Programming: Insights from under-represented audience members will inform programming, making it more reflective of diverse perspectives and experiences.

Understanding Social Impact: A clearer understanding of the social and wellbeing benefits of performances on people from various backgrounds.

Equitable Feedback Mechanisms: Improved equity in collecting and using feedback across all audience segments.

Enhanced Engagement: Strengthened engagement with traditionally under-represented groups by tailoring offerings to their needs and experiences.

This work is central to our commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and the ongoing development of a programme that resonates with all members of our audience.

External Evaluator Deliverables

  • Development/ design of an evaluation framework bespoke to Black Country Touring.

  • Produce methodology matrix and measures - review measures with team.

  • Produce a data collection plan, data collection methods/tools, to enable BCT to collect a representative sample from audiences effectively.

  • Work with Black Country Touring Creative Producer and Administrator on the development of an Evaluation Toolkit for Black Country Touring Community Promoters, which supports and subsidises community groups to select, promote and put on a professional touring theatre or dance show and provide training to the Promoters in collaboration with Black Country Touring.

  • Quarterly check-in and reflection with the team throughout 2025/26 on the implementation of the above.

Timescale

This work will commence in February 2025 and should conclude by April 2025, with the exception of the quarterly check-in meetings, which will run until December 2025.

Fees

We anticipate fees in the range of £3,500 - £5,000 inclusive of expenses, with the scope to extend the contract subject to the delivery of outcomes and further recommendations.

Job Requirements 

  • Experience of arts sector evaluation, especially theatre and participatory arts. 

  • Experience/knowledge of art sector in the West Midlands, preferably the Black Country 

  • Experience of arts sector evaluation frameworks and creative evaluation techniques.
