Bearwood To Dzorwulu

From April to July 2021, Black Country Touring and Accra Theatre Workshop (Ghana) worked together to create two new films exploring themes of community and belonging within the present moment.

Accra Theatre Workshop is a contemporary and experimental theatre company which seeks to present Ghanaian stories in new and interesting ways, putting special emphasis on new work and new voices, and being open to working with international groups and artists. This project was our first collaboration with them.

The project united artists, ideas and communities from the Black Country and Accra to create “Bearwood to Dzorwulu”  and “Motherly” – two short films inspired by the resilience and generosity of local independent businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The artists in the “Bearwood to Dzorwulu” project team were British writer and performer Jake Oldershaw, Ghanaian sound designer and musician David Addo Gyan, and British filmmaker Michael Ellis. The “Motherly” project team involved Ghanaian writer and performer Emelia Pinamang Asiedu, British sound artist Annie Mahtani, and Ghanaian filmmaker Andrew Dartey. Read more about them here.

Black Country Touring and Accra Theatre Workshop will collaborate again in summer 2022 on a new theatre production for families.
