Pop Up Poetry – Live Performances

Come and watch our four poets perform their new poems on Friday!

Last week, four poets – Bohdan Piasecki, R.M. Francis, Adaya Henry and Dreadlockalien – spent time in two shops and two cafes on Wednesbury high street. They talked to the customers, staff and business owners, and they created new poems based on those conversations. For the grand finale of Pop Up Poetry, they will be performing their poems live this Friday. Be sure to come along and enjoy their performances!

Date: Friday 17th December 2021
Location: Junction 9 ¾ Café, Spring Head, WS10 9AD
Times: 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 3pm

The performances will be taking place throughout the day on Friday 17th December. You can attend one of five tours which will begin at Junction 9 ¾  Café at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3pm, and will go between all four locations. The performances are free, and there is no need to book the tours in advance.

Alternatively, you can simply pop into one of the participating shops and cafes at any time: Junction 9 ¾ Café, Boobielous, 23 Market Place, Blue Sheep Books, and Vintage Tea Room & Café.

Have a look at what the poets have to say about Pop Up Poetry so far:

It has been exciting, full of laughter and, at times, deeply moving, being part of the gang at the Vintage Tea Rooms. I’ve been playing around with ideas of time, memory and shared experiences in my work and I’m looking forward to sharing it on Friday! – R. M. Francis

A couple popped into the cafe to reserve a Christmas booking. 4 minutes 30 seconds later, hubby and poet performed a bespoke love poem to his wife of 9 years. Tears! Result: poetry one nil. More to come on Friday! – Dreadlockalien

At Blue Sheep Bookstore, the customers told me a little about their lives in Wednesbury, and a lot about what they look for in a book. Together, we wrote poems about magic tricks, hidden socks, broken codes, lost friends and dream rides. We’ll see how much of that makes into my Friday piece! – Bohdan Piasecki
