Pop Up Poetry in Wednesbury

Four poets, two shops, two cafes in Wednesbury

We are back with our first in-person production since the pandemic began! Four poets are taking up residency in Wednesbury Town Centre, and are shining a spotlight on some of the independent businesses that are a vital part of the local community.

Bohdan Piasecki, R.M. Francis, Adaya Henry and Dreadlockalien will be spending time chatting to customers and business owners in shops and cafes on the high street this week. They will create new poems based on these conversations, and will perform them in the same shops and cafes throughout the day on Friday 17th December.

The poets will be in the shops on Tuesday 7th, Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th December. Come along, share your stories, and have a chat with the poets – they don’t bite!

The participating shops and cafes are:

Vintage Tea Room & Café, 39 Union Street, WS10 7HB
Boobielous, 23 Market Place, WS10 7AY
Blue Sheep Books, 51 Upper High Street, WS10 7HJ
Junction 9 ¾ Café, Spring Head, WS10 9AD

To watch the free performances on Friday 17th December, audiences can attend one of five tours between the four locations. The tours will begin at Junction 9 ¾ Café at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3pm. Alternatively, simply drop into any of the participating businesses at any time.

Pop Up Poetry is produced by Black Country Touring, commissioned by Multistory through the Wednesbury High Street Heritage Action Zone Cultural Programme, funded by Sandwell Council and Historic England. Clock tower illustration by David Wheately.
